Halloween

Why don't people enjoy Halloween like they do Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Easter. It's definitely a holiday and it only comes around once a year. Of course it isn't my favorite holiday, but it sure is a great one and to me, certainly is underrated. Maybe it's because the weather is different every year. Or maybe it doesn't have that "Christmas spark."
Have you ever actually thought about Halloween though? It is the only time of year for you to look and dress up however you want! Just think about it for a moment. One night out of the year you can look like a killer, a monster, a big round M&M, or a dirty school girl, and it's actually okay. Houses may be tee-peed or ding-dong ditched and nobody cares. No norms are violated. One night out of the year to do whatever you feel like doing, and yet, no one really cares about it.

My Love for Winter

Winter is just right around the corner. Most of us here in Wisconsin have already had a small taste of it, and it's only October. For a lot of people, this is the most dreaded time of the year. For me, it's my favorite. Something about just taking a deep breath and having the cooling feeling shoot through your lungs. I love winter. I love the cold, I love the snow, but above all, I love snowboarding. It's my favorite sport. I've been skiing since I was five years old, and once I considered myself too good at that, I converted over to snowboarding. I've now been snowboarding for a few years and I haven't skied since. I'm not that big of a fan of Mt. La Crosse though. I live for my family's annual trip to Colorado. We usually go either at Christmas time, or during the spring. It's one of my favorite travel destinations and I could just go there again and again and never get sick of it. The mountains are beautiful and it's impossible to be bored from how big their ski hills are. I think, because I learned this at such a young age, that this is why winter is my favorite season.

Talk about Technology

I just read an article that was posted on October 1, about a lamp, that runs on human blood. I don't know what this world is coming to. It turns out the chemical in the lamp is luminol-which is the same chemical used to detect blood at crime scenes. Apparently the luminol reacts with red blood cells to make a neon or bright blue glow. To light the lamp, you actually have to cut yourself and put in a drop of your own blood to make it glow. According to the inventor, the lamp was created to make people rethink how they use energy. In my opinion, if you're that desperate to conserve energy and help save the world, light a candle. The world doesn't need everyone cuttin' themselves just to make light.

You Actually Like This Band?

Who can honestly define what the characteristics of a good song has? The answer is no one. Have you ever heard of the band Cake? Not too many people have. When I was first introduced to this band about a year ago from my best friend, I absolutely hated it. If you're a first time listener all you can think about how annoying the lead singers voice is and that their music has no rhythm. The only problem is when the songs are pounded into your head, you learn to love their music. It has no gangster rhymes or kick ass drum solos, but the lyrics are what will catch you. They are poetic. They can be perceived in anyway by a listener because they have so much meaning and so many different meanings. It all depends on how you interpret the songs. I would highly recommend listening to this band. Okay, every band has some pretty crappy songs, but more often than not, these ones are good. They are a very unheard of and unpopular band, but only because no body has ever took the time to listen to them.
